Capcom’s showcase confirmed Dragon’s Dogma 2’s launch date and revealed new gameplay.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 confirmed for March 22, 2024; New Trickster calling, gameplay plus pre-orders
The wait is finally over, Capcom has confirmed the release date of Dragon’s Dogma 2 March 22, 2024. The news was expected to be announced during the official showcase, following a leak of the date not too long ago and the confirmation on the Steam page just hours before the showcase. Director Hideaki Itsuno previously hinted at the date via a tweet, so it’s not that big of a surprise. However, there was also a new gameplay reveal, trailer and details for the exciting next chapter. Let’s see what was shown.
New enemies of the best
A new enemy was revealed in the new trailer. Introduced in the exhibition as the giant Talos, emerging from the sea. In Greek mythology, Talos is a bronze automaton or living statue meant to protect, but it seems his days of protection are over. Instead, he will be one of the huge enemies that must be defeated. Upon closer inspection, his body almost looks like wood or carved stone, but it seems quite difficult to penetrate if a player tries to pierce his armor-like body with what appears to be a ballista.
The scale of this enemy is astonishing; it towers stories high, requiring the player to jump from a tall structure to climb aboard. To weaken his resolve, the player goes for the giant red ruby-like stone protruding from his body. Are hacking crystals.
Another way to get up is to use the birds that seem to hoist the group (yes, pawns and all) into the air, which is a perfect way to invade the enemy. Talos successfully breaks a weak point in his right eye and begins fountain squirting what appears to be reddish oil.
An archer shows even more ways to slow him down, shooting arrows into the weak point on his back.

We also quickly catch up on the story. The new trailer hints at new story beats, introducing new characters who all play a role. The Arisen are those who have had their hearts stolen by the Dragon. Interestingly, while the sequel “mirrors the first game,” the story takes place in a “parallel world.” We have already been introduced to a number of locations. This showcase takes an in-depth look at Vermund, a kingdom undergoing a power struggle for the throne.
Disa – Queen Regent – Vermund
Meet the Queen Regent Disa, whose plan is to have her son Sven take the throne as a false Arisen. She gives off real Cersei from GOT vibes in what is shown. Although she is graceful, she definitely has a holier than thou attitude. This also means that pawns actually serve a fake Arisen. This begs the question why they would follow someone who isn’t Arisen, and how?
Nadinia – Empress of Battahl
Pawns are used as a source of power in Battahl. Empress Nadinia is the head of the Kingdom of Battahl. She is a newly introduced race of Beastren in the sequel, which comes across as almost Khajiit-like.
Although they are on opposite sides, they both view the dragon as a threat. However, Ponnen and Arisen do not seem to agree. We also get a look at some of the key players in the plot, Menella, Wilhelmina, Brant and Sven.
Brant is the captain of the balance guard in Vermund. He has been demoted from the royal court for opposing the Queen Regent and appears to be on the Arisen’s side.
Taking a look at the side quests, we get a look at a new Elven settlement called the Sacred Arbor, which speaks their own language. Following the character Glyndwr, they act as interpreters. Quests not only provide interesting content, but can also deepen relationships with characters you encounter in the world.
In this quest, Glyndwr requires you to help rescue his sister who was stolen by an Ogre. We get a look at the rescue, with the character carrying her. There’s a whole diversion plan for this quest, which looks like a fun side story to dive into.
The Elven Kingdom looks absolutely amazing and gives LOTR Rivendell grandeur mixed with some forest, with its beautifully situated castle. The characters in it can also be interesting to get to know. A new skill for pawns, interpretation, is demonstrated in the display case. While not all pawns can translate elves, some can with the Woodland Wordsmith specialization, which is very useful. These are specialization pawns that can be acquired.
Another troubled specialization is Logistician, which appears to share the weight or lighten the load of the items you’re transporting. These are some exciting new additions and we can’t wait to see more of what’s in store.
We get a look at the all new character creation system. Since a new Beastren race has been introduced, Capcom has given us a closer look at the number of aesthetic adjustments. This includes different coat types, patterns, colors and even thicknesses.
Creating your character or pawn will be highly detailed with the enhanced photorealism captured by photogrammetry technology. Players can select a face and the system will recommend others for you to quickly choose from.
New calling – trickster
A new calling is revealed, this time the Trickster. This calling may only be used by the Arisen, who specializes in wielding censers that can cloud the enemy. They produce smoke that can create illusions that ultimately cause the enemies to fight among themselves. They can also strengthen pawns beyond their usual strength for a period of time. This new calling seems to have more of a support role, supporting their pawns in battle.
