Major Helldivers 2 update brings new gameplay features, balancing and more

Hell divers 2 is releasing a new and bigger update for players that brings new gameplay elements, mission and weapon balance, as well as general tweaks and quality of life tweaks. Arrowhead Game Studios’ live service shooter continues to evolve since its launch in February. Hell divers 2 has managed to achieve this through a combination of new updates and a dynamic world that is constantly evolving thanks to the push and pull of the players and enemy factions across the map.

This living and breathing card is an important reason for this Hell divers 2 has achieved unprecedented success, so much so that the first two weeks after the game’s launch were plagued with server capacity issues. With the launch problems well in the rearview mirror, Hell divers 2 has continued to grow and change through numerous updates and content drops in the weeks that followed, with new strategies such as the EXO-45 Patroit Exosuit, LAS-99 Quasar Cannon, and the MG-101 Heavy Machine Gun. With this latest update Hell divers 2 brings a lot of big changes and tweaks to the overall experience.


Another Helldivers 2 item causes the game to crash

Arrowhead Game Studios is warning Helldivers 2 players against using a seemingly harmless item as it will cause the game to crash.

With what Arrowhead Game Studios calls a “slightly bigger update”. Hell divers 2, this latest patch makes major balance adjustments to everything from weapons, strategies, missions, and enemies. On the mission front, Arrowhead has halved the negative effects of operation modifiers, added more objective locations for the Destroy Command Bunker mission, and moved enemy spawn points further away during Retrieve Essential Personnel missions. In terms of weapons, the Slugger received a few nerfs to stagger and damage, while the Dominator and Anti-Material Rifle received a boost. Modifications were also distributed to a number of other weapons and strategies, including Hell divers 2‘s EXO-45 Patriot Exosuit, which now requires a direct hit with a missile to penetrate enemy armor.

In addition to these balance updates, this update also adds new environmental hazards to the meteors and others already present Hell divers 2. According to the patch notes, players should also look out for Blizzards and Sandstorms. For those who want to continue the grind, Arrowhead has significantly increased the level cap from 50 to 150, improved the drop pod controls when approaching large or important objects, as well as other bug fixes.

One element not covered in this update is the supply lines on the world map. While Hell divers 2 uses an invisible supply line system, many players are hoping for visibility in a future update to help the community better understand which planets to fight for when completing certain Major Orders. Recently, the community has failed to achieve a goal because efforts were not focused on which planet to liberate in time, resulting in frustrations over the amount of efforts divided. A Hell divers 2 player showed off what a visible change to the UI of the supply lines on the map could look like, leaving fans both impressed and hopeful that something could happen sooner or later.

  • Enemy spawn points have been moved further away from the objective to give players a fairer chance to defend the location.

  • Now has more objective locations, the mission was previously too easy compared to other missions.
  • It can now appear in operations starting at difficulty 5.

Edit modifiers

  • Halved the negative effect of edit modifiers that increase the cooldowns of list or call-in times.

Primary, secondary and support weapons

  • Arc Thrower: resolved loading inconsistencies; it now always takes 1 second to charge a shot.
  • Arc Thrower: Reduced distance from 50m to 35m.
  • Arc Thrower: Increased stagger power.
  • Watchdog: Now restores full ammo from supply boxes.
  • Anti-Material Rifle: Damage increased by 30%.
  • Breaker Incendiary: damage per bullet increased from 15 per bullet to 20 per bullet.
  • Fire damage per tick increased by 50% (from all sources).
  • Liberator Penetrator: Now has a fully automatic mode.
  • Dominator: Increased damage from 200 to 300.
  • Dominator: Increased stagger.
  • Diligence Counter Sniper: Increased armor penetration from light to medium.
  • Slugger: Reduced wobble.
  • Slugger: Damage reduced from 280 to 250.
  • Slugger: Reduced demolition power.
  • Slugger: Fixed armor penetration tag in the menu.
  • Slugger, Liberator Concussive, Senator: Fixed incorrect armor penetration tags in the menu.
  • Recoilless Rifle: Increase the number of missiles you recover from supply boxes from 2 to 3.
  • Spear: Increase the number of missiles you recover from supply boxes from 1 to 2.
  • Heavy Machine Gun: Reduced the highest rate of fire mode from 1200 rpm to a more moderate 950.


  • Patriot Exosuit: Missiles now only penetrate armor on a direct hit.


  • Balance sheet adjustments have been made
  • Chargers’ normal melee attack now does less damage against Exosuits.
  • Bile Spewer and Nursing Spewer do less damage with their vomit.
  • The Bile Titan can no longer be stunned.
  • Shriekers no longer create bug breaches.
  • Shriekers that hit you while dead now deal significantly less damage.


Balance sheet adjustments have been made

  • Heavy and medium armor protects better and you now take about 10% less damage than before when wearing heavy armor, and about 5% less when wearing medium armor. Reinforced commandos and light armor are unchanged.


  • Fixed an issue where PS5 save settings were reset when the game was restarted, causing things like gear and hint settings to be reset.
  • Enemies now properly target Exosuits. Previously, many enemies would effectively ignore Exosuits if there was a hero diver on foot available to target.
  • Fixed Exosuits being able to fire their weapons while opening the minimap.
  • The Helldiver and the Exosuit both had a bug that sometimes caused them to take multiple blast damage, making things like automatic missiles too deadly. This has now been resolved.
  • Automatic enemy constellations that favored spawning more of certain Devastators types did not work and now function as they should. This means that sometimes when playing against the Automatons you will encounter more Devastators instead of other types of enemies.

We’ve improved the system that prevents the hellpod from getting close to large or important objects.

  • We fixed issues where the effective area around objects was much larger than intended.
  • We have reduced the number of objects that prevent hellpod control.
  • Note: This system is intended to prevent softlocks that could cause players to fall at key interaction points or end up in unintended places. We will continue to monitor the status of the system after the update to see if any additional adjustments are needed.
  • Fixed cases where the ground under some assets could be bombed, causing them to float.

Ballistic shield changes

  • The impact mesh has been slightly increased in size for more forgiveness
  • The shield positions have been changed so that less of the hell diver is visible
  • Fixed bug where parts of the helldiver became vulnerable while using the shield in first person


  • Invisible collision that partially blocks the doorway to the launch pad in the Tutorial

known problems

These are issues introduced by this patch and are being worked on, or are from a previous version and not yet resolved.

  • The game may freeze if you pick up a snowball or throw back a grenade

Various issues with friend invites and cross-play

  • Cross-platform friend invitations may not appear in the Friend Requests tab.
  • Players cannot unfriend other players who are friends via the friend code.
  • Players cannot unblock players who were not previously in their friends list.
  • Players cannot befriend players with a Steam name shorter than 3 characters
  • Explosive weapon stats only include direct hit damage, but not explosive damage.
  • Explosions don’t break your limbs (except when you fly into a rock).
  • Planet liberation reaches 100% at the end of each Defend mission.
  • Drowning in deep water while a Vitality Booster is equipped leaves Helldiver in a broken state.
  • Stratagem beam can attach to an enemy, but will deploy at its original location.
  • Some player customizations (such as title or body type) may be reset after restarting the game.


Hell divers 2

Helldivers 2 is a third-person cooperative shooter developed by Arrowhead Games Studios for the PC and PlayStation 5, in which players take control of a Helldiver set to protect the citizens of Super Earth by traveling to hostile alien worlds and destroying threats . Players undertake missions, defeat enemies and use special items called Stratagems to help turn the tide of battle in this punishing release.
