After taking the lead late in the fourth quarter that led to the tying field goal, Mahomes cemented his status as one of the most influential quarterbacks in NFL history in overtime.

On 4th and 1, with the Super Bowl on the line at the Chiefs’ 34-yard line, Mahomes took the ball himself to keep Kansas City’s championship hopes alive.

After several more short passes, Mahomes took the ball back into his own hands as he scrambled 19 yards up the middle to get the ball to the San Francisco 13-yard line.

With three seconds left, Mahomes threw to Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman Jr. for the Super Bowl-winning three-yard touchdown.

Mahomes finished the game with 333 passing yards for two touchdowns and an interception. He connected on 34 of 46 passes and averaged 7.2 yards per attempt.

The quarterback also led all Chiefs players with 66 rushing yards on nine carries.

He now joins Tom Brady and Joe Montana as the only quarterbacks to be named Super Bowl MVP three times.

The win not only gave Mahomes a trio of Super Bowl MVP titles. It also gave the Chiefs their third championship victory in four years, officially establishing the team as an NFL dynasty.

In 2024, Mahomes and the Chiefs will start thinking about chasing records set by Brady’s New England Patriots. For now, the team will focus on celebrating their LVIII victory.
