Now it’s the turn of 456 real players, who will take part in the challenge in an attempt to win $4.56 million. Many of the features are the same as the original show, with the main difference being that no one dies if they are eliminated.

Game 1: Red light, green light rules

Netflix

The first game is the iconic Red Light, Green Light, in which all 456 players must stand behind the starting line. The rules are as follows:

  • Players can move forward when the doll starts singing
  • They must stop moving when the doll stops singing
  • If they fail to stop moving when necessary, they are eliminated
  • Players have five minutes to cross the finish line or they will be eliminated

The rules are simple for the first test in Squid Game: The Challenge. Two players are selected and secretly they have to choose from the following options:

  • Giving a player an advantage in the next game
  • Choosing to eliminate one player

Game 2: Dalgona Rules

The infamous Squid Game Dalgona Challenge rears its ugly head in Episode 2, but this time it’s split into two parts to give everyone a fair chance. In the first part the rules are as follows:

  • Players must divide themselves into four teams and stand in queues
  • The first four players from each of the queues enter the Dalgona room and choose one of four shapes: circle, triangle, star or umbrella
  • They have two minutes to agree among themselves who will take which form for their teams
  • If they cannot decide within two minutes, all four are eliminated and the next four people from each team are sent to do the same
  • This is repeated until everyone agrees

Once all teams have been assigned their shapes, the main part of the game can begin, which follows these rules:

  • Each player must take a honeycomb cookie with the indentation in the shape of their team
  • Using a needle, each player has 10 minutes to separate the shape from the rest of the cookie
  • If they break their form or don’t complete the game within 10 minutes, they will be eliminated

The rules for the second test are also simple, starting with the phone ringing from the dorm room. Whoever answers the phone first gets a treat. However, when the phone rings a second time, they are instructed to:

  • Convince another player to answer the call within two minutes
  • If another player accepts the phone within this time frame, they will be eliminated
  • If they fail to convince another player to answer the call within two minutes, the person who initially answered the phone is eliminated

Game 3: Warship Rules

The third game in Squid Game: The Challenge is called Warships and is essentially a human-sized battleship. Initially, all participants must be split into eight teams in an empty room, before team pairs are randomly selected to play against each other.

One of the teams in each of the four pairs is red and the other is blue. The rules are as follows:

  • Each team has a vertically oriented board, split into coordinates ranging from A1 to H8, and these represent the other team’s board
  • Each team also has its own horizontal board with the same coordinates
  • Each team must choose a captain, who must then choose a lieutenant, and they will determine where to fire their missiles on the vertical board.
  • The rest of the team must split into boats of different sizes and decide where to place themselves on the horizontal board
  • Both the red and blue teams must take turns firing rockets at the opponent
  • Players are only eliminated if their entire ship is sunk
  • The first captain and lieutenant to sink two opposing ships wins and passes the game
  • The losing captain and lieutenant are eliminated along with the players from the sunken ships

For the third test, staff members bring a numeric keypad into the dormitory. The contestants must form a single line and are told to vote for a player to be eliminated. The three players with the most votes are sent home.

But there is an interesting caveat: if they vote for a player who has already been voted for, he or she will not appear on the board. But if they vote for a new player, they will, which means they could have a target on their back.

Game 4: Ddakji Rules

While it is not an official game of Squid Game: The Challenge as it does not involve all participants and no one is eliminated, it is worth mentioning Ddakji as it is such an integral part of the original Squid Game.

In this case, two Ddakji tiles – one red and one blue – are left on the side of the kitchen for the first two players to find. Once they do, they start playing, unaware that the rules are as follows:

  • The player who turns over his opponent’s tile the most times within an indefinite period of time wins a bar

In the final test for batch 1 of the episodes, five volunteers must put themselves forward in front of the rest of the participants. The volunteers must choose one of six jack-in-the-boxes and then take turns opening their box, each of which contains one of three options:

  • An advantage in the next match
  • The power to eliminate other players
  • Immediate elimination

Game 5: Marble Rules

As revealed at the end of episode 5, the next game is Marbles. All players have inadvertently chosen their partner, except player 222, who automatically advances to the next round. The rules for Marble are simple:

In the fifth test of Squid Game: The Challenge, the remaining players must choose a captain, although they are not immediately told why. Once they have selected their captain, the chosen leader must stand at the front of the group and select another participant that they want to remain in the game.

The person selected by the captain must join the front of the group and then choose a player to keep in the game. This continues until there are 20 players at the front. The remaining contestants who are not picked are eliminated, making this round a test of loyalty.

Game 6: Rules of the Glass Bridge

Still from Squid Game: The ChallengeNetflix

Like Dalgona, Glass Bridge is split into two parts to give players a fair chance. In the first part of the game, players must line up in front of a claw machine and take turns choosing a stuffed animal. Each toy contains a number that indicates the order in which they will be on the bridge. The lower the number, the less likely they are to succeed. But to make it truly fair, the player must give his selected number to another player.

Once the order is determined, players enter a room with a hanging glass bridge made from a series of pairs of glass squares. The players must cross the bridge one square at a time, but they have to make a difficult choice: one side is made of glass that you can safely stand on and the other side is not. If they choose the latter, they will not fall through and be eliminated.

Each participant must cross the glass bridge and reach the other side, and they have 30 minutes to do so. In Squid Game: The Challenge, the group decides to add their own rule to the mix: the first player in line must decide which glass tile to stand on next, and if he passes, the player behind him must pass the person on go the line. the front and choose the next one. This way, the person at the front does not have to make all the decisions and they usually all have a fair chance. Only one player – 278 – does not want to play.

Test 6 lines

The sixth test is also very simple, starting with a rope triangle on the dorm floor and a die in the center. The rules are as follows:

  • The group must choose a leader, who will go first
  • The players can nominate themselves or another player to roll the dice
  • They must take turns and the first three players to roll a six are eliminated

Game 7: Circle of Trust Rules

In the final game of part 2, players sit in a circle on chairs with desks and a stand in the center with a gift on it. They all have to put on a blindfold, and one player is randomly selected and tapped on the shoulder to take off their blindfold. The rules are as follows:

  • The player tapped on the shoulder must remove their blindfold, take the gift and place it on the desk of a participant they wish to eliminate.
  • They must sit back down and put their blindfolds back on before all players are instructed to take off their blindfolds
  • The player with the gift on his desk is sent home unless he can correctly guess who gave the gift
  • This continues until six players are eliminated
